Mission to the Children's Centre - October - November 2016 - Pastor Tony, Denise, Joy and Vicky

Joy went out ahead of the team to prepare and teach the children for 2 weeks during which time we had the computers up and running and the children were beginning to learn to copy type using the reading books. Once the team arrived we had the added blessing of more people to work with the children. Denise gave them their first experience with painting and water colour crayons as well as teaching them to use scissors for craft work. They also made angels from a template and Denise displayed their work on the walls.
Vicky worked with the maths games, teaching children how to use them . She also helped them with their computer work which meant that we were able to teach them to proof read their work and correct mistakes. All this is time consuming and impossible to do on your own.
Joy continued to teach them English and Maths along with Bible Study, working closely with Pastor Kelvin and Risiki.
Pastor Tony put up coat hooks, a shelf for their books, got the generator working for when there was no electricity and repaired the small table as well as dealing with leaking pipes and various other issues. He encouraged the boys to watch and learn how to do practical skills and taught them to use the electric shears to keep their hair tidy. They were keen to learn about maintaining the vehicle as well.
The highlight of the visit was the baptism of 8 of the boys and Risiki, their new housemother. We went to a local church who allowed us to use their baptistry and we worshipped and then Pastor Kelvin and Joy baptised them. We had several friends and church members who came to support the  young people and afterwards we had a celebration meal, cake and more worship. Many local people came to the celebration and we danced the night away as well. It was a wonderful occasion knowing that they had accepted Jesus as their Saviour and Lord.
What an amazing year we have had , what a difference we have seen and what testimonies they have given. They are a huge witness to the Power of the Living Lord to turn around what looked like bundles of rags into zealous disciples. Thank you Lord for being with us and thank you to our prayer warriors and financial supporters. God bless you all as we enter 2017.
