The Graduation Ceremony for the first cohort of students took place on Saturday 15th November 2014 with special guests David and Cynthia Taylor from Stonehouse Ministries, Nakuru and Joy Orwell from Settle Christian Fellowship, North Yorkshire. Sixteen students graduated all in Basic Dressmaking and Tailoring, all graduated with Honours in Maasi Beadwork and some graduated in Pattern making. Many students had never attended school so had to be taught numbers before they could use those numbers to measure. Rose and Nariku walked for 2 hours each way to attend school. Jane was the only one with 100% attendance and four students were pregnant and had to care for their newborn children as well as learn to sew. These ladies showed a huge commitment and they learned about Jesus and His Plan for their lives and grew in faith and self confidence as they travelled this journey together. Each person who has supported the school received a certificate of appreciation at the ceremony to which the whole community was invited. Over 500 people came, the Gospel was preached by Pastor David Taylor and the certificates were presented by the husbands and families of the ladies. They were adorned with gifts of beads and lesos , all were amazed at how much their families honoured them and some were overcome with emotion. It was an amazing day in which God was Glorified. The banquet was prepared and cooked during the previous day and night with everyone helping. To be there and to share in the work of God in this community was something very special for me . Deborah is truly making a difference with the work of Threads of Hope and the new church on the hill which is a new church plant. If you want to join us in raising sponsorship for the next cohort of students who start their term in January, please contact me urgently through the website and I will tell you how you can join us. Thank you for your Gifts and Prayers in advance.
